Overlooking the vibrant green pitch of Woodlands Stadium, imagine the roar of the crowd. This isn’t just any stadium. Woodlands Stadium holds a unique distinction. It’s the only stadium in Singapore with an MRT track offering a bird’s-eye view of the action. Opened in August 1989, Woodlands Stadium is part of the larger Woodlands Sports Complex. This eight-hectare complex also includes the Woodlands Sports Hall and Woodlands Swimming Complex. All three facilities are owned and operated by Sport Singapore. Originally built with a seating capacity of 1,600, Woodlands Stadium expanded significantly with the launch of the S.League in 1996. Woodlands Wellington FC made the stadium its home. To accommodate the growing crowds, the capacity was increased to 4,300. This expansion included a 2,000-seat grandstand, a 1,000-seat semi-permanent stand, and portable stands at each end of the pitch, each holding 1,300 spectators. Woodlands Stadium isn’t just for professional athletes. The eight-lane running track surrounding the football pitch is open to the public. Joggers can enjoy the track from 4:30 am to 8:30 pm daily, free of charge, thanks to Sport Singapore’s community-focused approach. You might even encounter local runners during your visit. Beyond football and athletics, Woodlands Stadium offers other amenities. A Singapore Pools outlet is conveniently located near the away fans’ entrance. The Woodlands Wellington clubhouse is also situated within the stadium complex. In 2015, Warriors FC temporarily relocated to Woodlands Stadium from Choa Chu Kang Stadium for the 2015 season due to the 2015 SEA Games. Woodlands Stadium stands as a testament to Singapore’s dedication to sports and recreation, offering a vibrant hub for both professional and community sporting activities.
