Schloss Weistropp has changed hands numerous times. In 1601 under Heinrich von Eckersberg the castle was rebuilt. Albrecht von Güntherode added the south and north wings in 1661 and 1662. In 1717 Adolph Freiherr von Seifertitz took over. He commissioned a major renovation. This included a passage to the patron saint’s lodge in the Weistropp church. Then came Jacob von Krause. The Imperial Austrian Consul General acquired Schloss Weistropp in 1822. He transformed the site. He added several building complexes including stables. He clearly valued the Schloss. He even saw it as the perfect home for his art collection. His nephew later managed the estate.
Karl II of Bourbon-Parma briefly considered the Schloss. He even looked at Weistropp as a potential refuge after losing his dukedom in Parma. However he only stayed for a short while. The Schloss saw further changes in 1873 and 1874 under Adolph Keil. After the Second World War the Schloss served as a community center a school and even housing. For years it stood empty threatened by decay.
But Schloss Weistropp was destined for a renaissance. In 2006 a Dresdner couple purchased it. They breathed life back into the structure. They meticulously restored its splendor. Today Schloss Weistropp stands as a symbol of resilience. Its 19 apartments tell tales of the people who have called it home.
