Remember Lászlo Moholy-Nagy? His innovative spirit lives on here at MOME Base. MOME Base is a key building on the campus of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. It embodies the university’s commitment to modern education.
MOME Base is where community and learning meet. It is the heart of the BA programs. Activity-specific teaching spaces fill this building. The student studios are designed to adapt. They support teamwork, formal teaching, and individual learning.
The computer rooms are located here. So is the Mobility Design Lab. Even a gym can be found in the basement. MOME Base truly offers a rounded experience.
The Design Institute is an active hub. It fosters dialogue with design organizations. These connections span Hungary, Europe, and the world. A shining example is the collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Design Studio. This partnership is celebrating its 20th anniversary. MOME and Daimler Design have supported education with cutting-edge technology. They have raised the international standard of the program.
The MOME campus has several buildings. MOME Ground serves as the main entrance. It connects the campus to the outside world. MOME Ground is a reception area. It offers orientation and links the buildings. This is the largest indoor event space. It can hold 400 people. The Library and Reception are accessible from here. The reception is open 24/7.
MOME Master houses the university’s administration. You will find the Design, Theoretical Studies, Architecture, and Media institutes here. Lecturers’ offices and the Student Affairs office are also located in MOME Master. Flexible teaching spaces are also part of MOME Master.
MOME One is the first completed block of the TechPark. This is where the classic workshops are. You’ll find textiles, metal, and wood here. As of September 2023, the digital designer maker lab is also located here. It offers laser cutting and 3D printing.
MOME Two contains media and recording studios. Film, photography, graphic design, and sound all have space here. Manual studios support ceramics, plaster, glass, and bio-fibre work. The largest spaces are in MOME Two. These are the spatial experimentation, drawing, sculpting, photography, and film studios.
MOME UP is the most iconic building. It embodies innovation and progress. The Innovation Center, Doctoral School, and EU Projects office call it home. The Budapest Design Material Library and Brand Office are here. MOME Open, the university’s adult training platform, is also located in MOME UP.
The architectural design of the MOME campus is special. The suspended structure of MOME Base maximizes floor space. The horizontal and vertical transparency of the old central building encourages dialogue. MOME UP presents a new visual image.
