Beyond its red brick facade, lies a tale of architectural ambition. The Hauberrisser-Haus stands as a testament to Georg von Hauberrisser’s legacy. It reflects Munich’s architectural evolution.

Georg von Hauberrisser was born in 1841 in Graz Austria. He later became known as Georg Ritter von Hauberrisser. He was a German-Austrian architect. Hauberrisser came to Munich in 1866. He died in Munich in 1922.

Hauberrisser’s father was a builder. Georg Hauberrisser the Elder moved to Graz in 1811. His son’s architectural journey began at the Graz Polytechnic. He then moved to Munich. He studied at the Polytechnic and the Academy of Fine Arts. Later, he studied at the Bauakademie in Berlin. He concluded his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

In 1866, Hauberrisser started his architectural career in Munich. At only 25 years old, he planned his most famous building. This was the New Town Hall. Construction started in 1867. Georg von Hauberrisser is also well-known for other buildings. These include the New Town Hall in Wiesbaden. Also, the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Graz. And St. Paul’s Church in Munich. Other important projects include the rebuilding of Moravian Bouzov Castle. Also the town halls of Kaufbeuren and St. Johann an der Saar.

One could say that the Hauberrisser-Haus shows Hauberrisser’s distinctive style. It also reflects the architectural trends of his time. The Hauberrisser-Haus is a red brick building with four stories. The roof has one level and a hipped shape.

Hauberrisser received many honors in his lifetime. These include honorary membership in the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in 1875. He also became a Royal Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in 1876. In 1921, he became an honorary citizen of Munich.

Consider the Hauberrisser-Haus a prelude to Hauberrisser’s more monumental works. The New Town Hall is located at the heart of Marienplatz. The Legal Library is hidden away inside. It is known as one of the most stunning libraries in the world. It features art nouveau design. It also features wrought-iron spiral staircases.

As we conclude our visit to the Hauberrisser-Haus let us appreciate its understated elegance. It also reminds us of Georg von Hauberrisser’s contribution to Munich’s architectural identity.
