What began as a humble bequest in 1624 has blossomed into the prestigious Latymer School we see today. This institution in Edmonton, London has a rich history. The Latymer School consistently ranks among the top schools in the country. It welcomes students of all genders who demonstrate the aptitude to thrive.

The Latymer School’s story starts with Edward Latymer. He was an English merchant who had a vision for educating the less fortunate. His generosity laid the foundation for a school that has shaped countless lives.

Originally, Edward Latymer intended his bequest to educate eight poor boys from Hammersmith. His aim was to provide them with an education that would keep them from idleness. Also to teach them about God’s true religion.

The Latymer School’s motto is “Qui Patitur Vincit” meaning “who endures wins.” This reflects the school’s commitment to fostering resilience and determination in its students. Latymer offers six houses for each year group. These houses compete for the Dormer Shield and the Jones Cup.

Pupils at The Latymer School consistently achieve excellent grades in their GCSEs and A-levels. A high percentage of pupils achieve A or B grades at A-levels. This is sufficient to gain entry to many universities in the Russell Group. Over three-quarters of pupils achieve A or A* grades. These are often a requirement for Oxbridge. Around 20 to 25 pupils gain acceptance to Cambridge or Oxford every year.

The Latymer School’s commitment to academic excellence is clear. The school provides pupils with an academic formation and life experience. It benefits them personally. The application process for The Latymer School is rigorous and competitive. Parents must submit an application form and a common application form from the local authority. Academic performance and residence in the Inner Area are important criteria. The Inner Area is loosely defined as the northeastern boroughs of London. Applicants from outside the school’s Inner Area may apply. However, preference is skewed to applicants residing in the Inner Area.

The Latymer School also welcomes external applicants to its Sixth Form. Although the number of places is high, it’s still highly competitive. Parents should apply early and attend an open evening.

Latymer is rated as good overall by OFSTED. Its Sixth Form and personal development program are considered outstanding. Pupils feel safe, are well cared for and happy at Latymer School. They are polite and respectful. Leaders have designed an ambitious curriculum for all pupils. The school prepares pupils well for their future and helps them to understand their role in the wider world.
