Kilómetro 0.72 is Argentina’s official Kilometer Zero. From this point all distances across the nation are measured. It marks the beginning of countless journeys. It whispers tales of pioneers and progress.

Originally situated in Plaza Lorea it wasn’t always here. In 1944 a decree moved Kilómetro 0.72 to its current location. Now it rests in Plaza Mariano Moreno. The move was official but perhaps a bit of a mystery. Why the change? Some say better visibility. Others speak of a more symbolic location near the National Congress.

Sculpted by the Fioravanti brothers Kilómetro 0.72 was inaugurated on October 5 1935. President Agustín P Justo presided over the ceremony. Each side of the cube faces a cardinal direction. The north side shows the Virgin of Luján. The south displays a relief map of Argentina. The east commemorates the inauguration. The west honors General San Martín.
