In 1975, Darrick Wood School first opened its doors. But not here on Lovibonds Avenue. For its first two terms, Darrick Wood School’s students actually attended classes at Charles Darwin School in Biggin Hill. Imagine those first students, shuttling between locations, becoming the first threads in the tapestry of Darrick Wood’s history. Darrick Wood School, right here, became their permanent home shortly thereafter. It has since grown to accommodate over 1700 students. Darrick Wood School earned Technology College status, a Healthy School Award, and a Sportsmark Award. It was also once a Microsoft Academy, offering professional qualifications to students and the public alike. Darrick Wood School transitioned to an academy in 2010. A few years later, in 2013, it gained Teaching school status. The school proudly holds the UK’s World Class Schools Quality Mark, a testament to its commitment to excellence. The school offers a robust curriculum. Years 7 through 9 cover core National Curriculum subjects. Years 10 and 11 focus on core subjects like English, Math, Science, and IT. Students also have options to pursue a more traditional academic path, including languages, history, and geography, or a vocational route. Interestingly, Darrick Wood School has a hearing impairment resource provision, managed by the London Borough of Bromley, demonstrating its dedication to inclusive education.
