Guilhermina Prata. Does that name ring a bell? That is the current ambassador to the Ambassade d’Angola in France.

The Ambassade d’Angola stands before us. It is more than just a building. It represents Angola’s diplomatic presence in France. It fosters relationships between the two nations. The Ambassade d’Angola is located at 19 Avenue Foch in Paris. Its phone number is 01 45 01 58 20.

The building housing the Ambassade d’Angola has a rich history. It was built in 1859 by architect Jean-Alexis Thierry. It was originally for Madame de Monpelas. Later, it became the property of Louis-Charles d’Orléans, Duke de Nemours. In 1887, Béatrice de Rothschild and her husband Maurice Ephrussi acquired it. Finally, in 1979, the Republic of Angola purchased the building. They carefully restored it to its former glory.

The Ambassade d’Angola isn’t just about history. It actively engages in diplomacy. It provides consular services to Angolan citizens. This includes Angolan passport and travel document applications. The embassy also issues visas to those wishing to visit Angola.

Did you know that the Ambassade d’Angola is partially classified? It’s actually the Hôtel de Monpelas. It is also known as Ephrussi-Rothschild. It is one of the first and last remaining hôtels particuliers built along the avenue de l’Impératrice. This avenue was created in 1854.

The consulate general is located at 16 Rue Henri Rochefort. The residence of the consul general is at 24, rue de l’Assomption.

In early 2022, something special happened. Statues from the Ambassade d’Angola’s garden made their way to the Palace of Versailles. The statues Zéphyr, Flore, l’Amour and L’Abondance were displayed in the Dauphine’s apartment. Alphonse de Rothschild bought them in 1881. They were rediscovered in the embassy’s garden. The Ambassade d’Angola graciously offered them to the former royal palace.
