Beneath the minaret’s shadow stands Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami. It is also known as Bostancı Camii. This mosque stands as a testament to faith and architectural vision. The Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami is located in the Bostancı neighborhood of Kadıköy. It is on Istanbul’s Anatolian side.

Let’s take a closer look at the Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami. It was designed by the renowned Turkish architect Kemaleddin Bey. He was a leading figure of the First National Architecture Movement. Born in Acıbadem-Kadıköy in 1870, Kemaleddin Bey left an indelible mark. He passed away in 1927.

Construction of the Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami finished around 1913. However, the inscription above the entrance states 1915. This discrepancy likely stems from differences in converting between the Gregorian and Hijri calendars. These calendar differences create a one to one and a half year discrepancy. The Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami is also called Bostancı İstasyon Camii. This is because it is near the train station.

Notice the mosque’s location. The Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami sits on a spacious plot. It lies on the left bank of the Bostancı or Çamaşırcı Stream. A school stands within the mosque’s courtyard. Today, this building serves as the Bostancı Public Education Center.

Observe the mosque’s design. Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami features a single minaret with one balcony. It has a modest yet aesthetically pleasing appearance. A fountain adorns its garden. The mosque’s dome has four weight towers. These indicate that the interior follows a square plan. The upper level is reserved for women.

Did you know a bridge said to be built by Mimar Sinan once crossed the stream nearby? It suffered damage over time and underwent repairs. Locals once used this stream to wash clothes. Despite pollution issues, restoration efforts have minimized the stream’s contamination.

The Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami is more than a building. It is a landmark. Buses departing from Üst Bostancı start their routes here. As you stand before the Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami consider its history. Think about the architect’s vision and the community it serves. The Bostancı Kuloğlu Cami continues to be a place of worship and a symbol of cultural heritage.
