Picture this: a vibrant, brick-built school with windows bright and welcoming. This is Highfield Junior School, a beacon of learning in the Shortlands neighborhood of Bromley. Established in 1959, this school welcomed its first students over six decades ago. Highfield first opened its doors as a county primary school, offering a nurturing environment for little ones.
The school has a rich history woven into its very walls. In 1960, two additional classrooms were built, and a mobile classroom arrived in 1967, a necessity for a growing student body. In 1971, Highfield Junior School transitioned to a mixed-gender Academy. While a primary school originally, it shifted to a junior school to cater to students aged 7-11 years.
There is a special connection between Highfield and the community. They always go above and beyond. They once even helped raise money for local charities. Just imagine the children at Highfield, young and full of energy, joining in the fun and making a difference. Highfield has seen many headteachers come and go, each making their mark. One particularly interesting fact is that their former headteacher, Ann Golding, was even a student at Highfield!
Highfield Junior School stands as a testament to the enduring power of education. A place of learning, laughter, and shared memories, it continues to shape young minds, one student at a time. The school’s impact extends both inside and beyond its walls, inspiring generations to discover, learn, and grow.
