Opened in 1948, Gerbrandskolen has witnessed generations of Copenhagen children. Gerbrandskolen stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to education. This school wasn’t always here. The land once held the Alhambra amusement park. This park, established in 1903 as a cyclist pavilion, met a fiery end in 1916. The street names surrounding Gerbrandskolen, like the school itself, echo Dutch names. This is a nod to the Dutch farmers who settled on Amager Island in the 16th century. Gerbrandskolen started with a modest enrollment. By 2017, nearly 800 students filled its classrooms, learning and growing within its walls. Today, Gerbrandskolen serves students from grade 0 to 6. It continues the legacy of the Dutch settlers, providing a vibrant educational hub in the heart of Copenhagen.
