Beneath the canopy of trees at Linwood Park, a transformation is underway. Linwood Park isn’t just a green space. It’s a living testament to community spirit. A place where the echoes of children’s laughter mingle with the rustling leaves. Linwood Park, last renovated in 1992, is now embarking on a journey of renewal. The Summit Hill Association, in partnership with St. Paul Parks and Recreation, is spearheading this revitalization project. They aim to reimagine Linwood Park for the 21st century. The project is unfolding in phases. The first phase focuses on the playground. This phase is funded by a grant from the nonprofit KABOOM!. The Summit Hill Association is collaborating with KABOOM! and Saint Paul Parks and Recreation. They want to ensure the playground reflects the community’s values. Future phases will encompass the entire park. These phases will be funded by sales tax dollars and community donations. The community’s voice is at the heart of this project. The Summit Hill Association has hosted numerous listening sessions and open houses. These events allow residents to shape the park’s redesign. A community survey was conducted in June 2024, based on sample designs. The results are available for public review. The city is currently revising these designs based on the feedback received. They plan to present updated designs in mid-August 2024. The community’s vision for Linwood Park is vibrant and diverse. They envision a safe, nature-inspired playground for all ages. They imagine accessible landscaping, pickleball courts, and a walking trail. More tree cover for shade and wildlife habitat is also a priority. A bandshell amphitheater for live performances is a dream. So are renovated basketball and tennis courts and accessible raised beds in the community garden. Linwood Park is more than just a park. It’s a canvas for community aspirations. It’s a place where memories are made and futures are envisioned. The revitalization of Linwood Park is a testament to the power of community collaboration.
