The Museo de Esculturas Luis Perlotti is more than just a collection of art. It is a journey through the artistic vision of Luis Perlotti and his contemporaries. The museum’s mission is to preserve and promote Argentine sculpture. It especially focuses on the work of Luis Perlotti.

Luis Perlotti was born into a family of Italian immigrants. He began his art studies at the Unione e Benevolenza mutual aid society. Later, he joined the National Academy of Fine Arts.

Imagine Perlotti in 1948. He acquired this property on Pujol Street. He began redesigning his home into a museum. Two large rooms were dedicated to exhibiting his finished works. He also created a library. His friend Quinquela Martín created two large enameled iron murals. They were placed at the entrance to the main courtyard.

In 1954, Perlotti started offering guided tours. He wanted to connect with the local community. He wanted to introduce them to art and his own creations.

Inside the Museo de Esculturas Luis Perlotti, you will find over 1600 pieces. These include drawings, paintings, engravings and murals. Various sculptural genres are on display. There are wood carvings, marble and bronze sculptures, ceramics, and reconstituted stone works. Perlotti’s work often featured Americanist themes.

The Museo de Esculturas Luis Perlotti also showcases works by other artists. These include Lidia Battisti, Juan Carlos Ferraro, and Alfredo Yacussi.

Luis Perlotti tragically died in a car accident in 1969. He donated his house and its artistic treasures to the city of Buenos Aires. The museum officially opened in December 1990. A remodeling project was completed in 2008.

The Museo de Esculturas Luis Perlotti has two exhibition halls. The Sala Filomena Bianco de Perlotti is on the ground floor. The Sala César Ariel Fioravanti is on the first floor. The hallways on the ground floor, first, and second floors also serve as open exhibition spaces. The library and auditorium are on the second floor.

The museum also has the Ferraro-Battisti workshop-museum. This space is dedicated to restoration and conservation. It was created after Lidia Battisti and Juan Carlos Ferraro donated their art.
