Unveiled in May 2002 the Centro Universitário La Salle do Rio de Janeiro stands as a beacon of education. It is located in Niterói. It’s a modern part of the extensive educational work led by John Baptist de La Salle. He was named the Universal Patron of Educators by Pope Pius XII. His legacy lives on through the Brothers of the Christian Schools also known as Lassalistas.
Today the Lassalian mission spans 83 countries. It includes 7694 Brothers. It also has 60000 educators and 1020 educational communities. Centro Universitário La Salle do Rio de Janeiro also known as Unilasalle-RJ is a non-profit private higher education institution. It is maintained by the Brazilian Association of Lasallian Educators.
But how did it all begin? The idea sparked when educator Írio Molinari returned from Costa Rica. He suggested building a unit for teaching Pedagogy. This would train professionals based on the values of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. Brother Amadeu then the school’s director liked the idea. He presented it to Brother Ignácio Weschenfelder who approved it. Construction began. In 2006 Brother Ignácio took over as the unit’s director.
Unilasalle-RJ aims to be an open space of educational excellence. It is committed to comprehensively training professionals. It prepares them for the job market with ethical values.
