Skilled artisans from China oversaw the installation of many of the garden’s key features.

The garden’s creation was a phased project. The Pine and Plum Pavilion opened in the early 1990s initiating this ambitious undertaking. Later the Knowing the Spring Courtyard a beautiful structure was completed in 2010 opening to the public in 2011. This courtyard showcases the careful balance of yin and yang a fundamental principle in Chinese garden design.

The Seattle Chinese Garden is far from complete. It’s a work in progress. When finished the garden will boast twelve buildings including an education center and a banquet hall. Imagine the Floating Clouds Pavilion a stunning 85-foot structure that will enhance the overall experience. The garden’s design uses elements of traditional Sichuan horticulture. It incorporates the unique rock formations inspired by China’s Yangtze River gorges.
