Did you know that Masjid Jami Al Mansur is more than just a place of prayer. It is a cultural landmark steeped in history. This mosque stands as one of Jakarta’s oldest. It is located in Jembatan Lima, Tambora.

Masjid Jami Al Mansur has a fascinating story. Raden Abdul Malik, also known as Prince Cakrajaya Adiningrat, founded it in 1717. His vision was to create a space for worship. He also wanted to foster community mental education against invaders. Initially, it was named Jami Kampung Sawah.

The mosque played a vital role in Indonesia’s struggle for independence. KH Mohammad Mansyur led the charge. During 1947-1948, fierce fighting erupted between nationalist forces and NICA soldiers. Mansur bravely attempted to raise a Red-and-White flag on the mosque’s minarets. These minarets might look obsolete now.

After Mohammad Mansyur’s death on May 12, 1967, the mosque was renamed Masjid Jami al-Mansyur. This was done to honor his contributions. The government recognized its cultural significance in 1972. It was listed as a cultural heritage object.

Let’s talk about the architecture of Masjid Jami Al Mansur. The main hall is the oldest part. It measures 12 by 14.40 meters. Four solid pillars dominate the space. Their bases are octagonal with unique details. There is a buffer, bell pellet, and flat surface. The central stem is round and decorated with seams. The top section is rectangular. Wooden beams support two staircases leading to the attic. Fences with rhomboid patterns adorn these beams.

The roof of Masjid Jami Al Mansur has a limasan style. The tower is a newer addition. It stands 12 meters tall. It features a cylindrical shape. Terraces with iron fences encircle the fourth and fifth sections. A semicircular dome crowns the minaret.

Masjid Jami Al Mansur represents a blend of architectural styles. It reflects Javanese, Chinese, Arab, and Betawi influences. The mosque’s design tells a story of cultural fusion. The large pillars are reminiscent of ancient Javanese mosques. The three-tiered limasan roof adds to its unique character. The main hall remains the oldest part of the structure. It still measures 12 x 14.40 meters.

The doors have two leaves. The upper threshold is round. It is adorned with carved gebyok. The windows are simple. They have rectangular frames. Wooden bars are installed similar to those in Masjid Angke and Masjid Said Na’um. Today, the walls, windows, and doors have been moved forward 10 meters on all sides. This provides a larger space.

The minaret’s shape mirrors the influence of Arab Hadramaut architecture. It has a cylindrical form reaching twelve meters high. The fourth and fifth sections of the tower have terraces enclosed by iron fences. The tower is topped with a dome.

Masjid Jami Al Mansur stands as a testament to Jakarta’s rich history. It embodies the spirit of resistance. It also embodies cultural harmony. It serves as a reminder of the past. It inspires future generations.
