A giant shimmering skin. That’s the first impression of the Allianz Arena. Its exterior is unlike any other stadium in the world. Thousands of inflated ETFE plastic panels create a breathtaking spectacle. They glow in a variety of colours. Red for Bayern Munich. Blue for TSV 1860 Munich. White for international matches.

The Allianz Arena isn’t just a football stadium. It’s a landmark in Munich. It’s a symbol of modern architecture and sporting excellence. Construction began in 2002. It opened its doors in 2005. The cost was a staggering 340 million Euros. Architects Herzog & de Meuron designed this masterpiece. They collaborated with Ove Arup & Partners. The result is a stadium both functional and aesthetically stunning.

Bayern Munich moved into the Allianz Arena in 2005. They left their long-time home at the Olympic Stadium. TSV 1860 Munich was a co-owner of the Allianz Arena. They faced serious financial difficulties. They sold their share to Bayern in 2006. This deal sadly ended their time at the Allianz Arena in 2017.

The Allianz Arena is more than just a place to watch football. It’s a hub for entertainment. It houses the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt a museum celebrating the club’s rich history. You can also find many restaurants and fast-food places around the stadium. There is even a huge car park below it.

Did you know the Allianz Arena’s lighting is remarkable? It uses cutting-edge LED technology. The stadium’s lighting is so bright it’s visible from the Austrian mountains on clear nights. Fifty Euros an hour it costs to illuminate this amazing building. But the Munich Police insisted on single-colour lighting. They wanted to avoid accidents caused by drivers being distracted by the changing lights.

The Allianz Arena has hosted many prestigious events. It was a venue for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. It hosted the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final and will also host the 2025 final. It also hosted the first regular season NFL American football game played in Germany. The seating capacity can expand. For domestic matches it reaches up to 75.000. For international games it is 70.000.

The Allianz Arena is a remarkable venue. A true symbol of Munich. A place where football history is made and unforgettable moments are created. A place where architecture blends seamlessly with sport. A place you won’t forget anytime soon.
