Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center

Amidst the vibrant energy of Bali, the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center stands as a testament to global collaboration. The Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center, often referred to as Tsinghua SEA, isn’t just a building. It’s a bridge connecting cultures and fostering innovation. Imagine standing here, on the grounds of Kura Kura Island, where the groundbreaking ceremony took place in October 2018. Distinguished guests, including Tsinghua University President Qiu Yong, gathered to mark the beginning of this remarkable endeavor. The Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center represents a significant step in Tsinghua University’s Global Strategy. It’s their third international presence, following the Global Innovation eXchange (GIX) Institute in Seattle and the China-Italy Design Innovation Hub in Milan. Tsinghua SEA focuses on non-degree education and cultural exchange. Its mission is fueled by a partnership with United in Diversity (UID), an Indonesian public charity fund. This collaboration ensures the center’s smooth operation and provides valuable local insights. The center’s launch ceremony in November 2022, coinciding with the G20 summit in Bali, underscored its importance. The event highlighted Tsinghua SEA’s dedication to talent development, academic exchange, and cooperation. Indonesian President Joko Widodo even acknowledged the center’s positive impact on educational and cultural exchange between China and Indonesia. The center’s work extends beyond traditional education. It delves into critical global issues like public health, digital transformation, and AI governance. This creates a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration between nations. Tsinghua SEA is more than just classrooms and lecture halls. The Bali campus, officially opened in 2022 after four years of development, boasts a spacious 17,000 square meter area. The five-story building provides a modern learning environment for over 300 people. It serves as a hub for learning, networking, and developing innovative solutions, particularly those contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center embodies a vision of a brighter future.
