Picture this. You’re standing before GKI Pamulang a vibrant hub of Christian faith in Jakarta. Its story began not in grand architecture but in humble beginnings. In April 1987. Small Bible study groups met in homes. These were members of GKI Kebayoran Baru. They yearned for a church closer to Pamulang. An informal survey revealed 33 families shared this desire.
In March 1989 GKI Kebayoran Baru approved the establishment of a worship service in Pamulang. The first service was held September 24 1989. It was at Benita Corner. Seventy people attended that inaugural service. It was a modest start for what would become a significant presence. Initially the services moved between locations. One temporary spot was a warehouse owned by PT Bumi Upaya Griya.
Through God’s grace the congregation acquired 4000 square meters of land. This was near Witana Harja. However due to local objections the land was exchanged. The church found its current home at Jl Raya Pamulang I Blok L 24. By September 1992 attendance reached 250 people. The church’s activities expanded significantly. This led to an upgrade in status. GKI Kebayoran Baru elevated it to “bakal jemaat” or prospective congregation on August 1 1993.
Two years later on September 23 1995 GKI Pamulang officially became a fully established church. Growth continued. The church called its first pastor. Reverend Jan Calvin Pindo joined on September 23 1999. His arrival marked a new chapter. Then Reverend Tri Yeni Sulistiani became the second pastor in 2002. The church continued to flourish. In 2009 Reverend Rahmat Basukendro became the pastor. Reverend Iswari Setyanti joined in 2016. In 2018 a significant milestone arrived. GKI Pamulang received its building permit the IMB.
GKI Pamulang’s mission is clear. It aims to refresh the spiritual lives of its members. It fosters connections between the congregation the wider church community and the local population. The church strives for continuous growth and adaptation to meet modern challenges. This is achieved through quality resources and infrastructure. It’s a story of perseverance growth and faith a testament to the enduring spirit of the community it serves.
