Established in 1949 the Friedrich-List-Schule stands proudly in Kassel. Its history however stretches further back. A trading school and a higher commercial school were established in the current building as early as 1927. These institutions were incorporated into the Friedrich-List-Schule after the Second World War. The school initially operated as a commercial high school with vocational school branches. It wasn’t until 1957 that it received its current name honoring the German national economist Friedrich List.

The Friedrich-List-Schule quickly adapted to changing times. Initially offering part-time classes these were later moved to a different location. A full-fledged economics high school program with a university entrance qualification was added in 1964. This continues today as a vocational high school. Part-time education returned in 1979. The higher commercial school component however was moved to the Martin-Luther-King-Schule. The Friedrich-List-Schule didn’t stop evolving. In the 1980s it introduced a two-year vocational school for information processing and a foreign language secretarial program.

Today the Friedrich-List-Schule is a comprehensive institution. It offers a diverse range of vocational training programs. These include training for office communication specialists business management specialists legal specialists and administrative specialists. The school also stands out for its focus on international collaboration. It’s been a certified European school since 2000.
