“A message from Joanna,” Divaldo Pereira Franco declared. This message sparked the beginning of the Sociedade Espírita Fraternidade.
Here we stand before a place born from spiritual guidance. It is a testament to faith and community. The Sociedade Espírita Fraternidade started small but it grew into something significant.
Divaldo Pereira Franco a well-known speaker played a crucial role. He was with Raul Teixeira in Belo Horizonte. They stayed at a residence with fellow Spiritists. That is when Divaldo confirmed a task for Raul. He said it would connect to his Spiritist speaking. Divaldo shared Joanna de Ângelis’ message. She said it was time to gather people. They should form a group to spread the word. This group would study the Gospel. Souls aligned with Raul’s heart would appear. Raul needed to sing the doctrine’s message so kindred spirits would hear it. This would lead to forming a Spiritist center.
In 1978 Raul Teixeira started activities at the Federaçãao Espírita do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. It involved lectures and passes on Tuesdays. Motivated people arrived to spread the word. They formed bonds and established a new Spiritist society. On September 4 1980 the founding charter was signed. This marked the official beginning of the Sociedade Espírita Fraternidade.
Initially activities took place in a rented property in central Niterói. All meetings happened in a small room. As attendance grew they needed a bigger place. The Sociedade Espírita Fraternidade moved twice before acquiring its permanent headquarters in 1990.
Over time the group expanded. Some left while others joined. Today the Sociedade Espírita Fraternidade has over 400 volunteers. They work at the headquarters in Spiritist doctrine and assistance. They also volunteer at Remanso Fraterno. This is the institution’s socio-educational project.
The Sociedade Espírita Fraternidade also runs Editora Fráter. It promotes Spiritism especially Raul Teixeira’s works. Proceeds support Remanso Fraterno. Remanso Fraterno began in the 1980s helping vulnerable children in Niterói’s Favela do Gás. Social work was done on Saturdays. As the institution matured it created the Departamento Assistencial. This became Remanso Fraterno offering educational support and protection to at-risk children.
Founded on March 20 1988 Remanso Fraterno sits on 50000 m² in the Serra da Tiririca. In 1998 the Núcleo Educacional Professora Clélia Rocha opened. It provides care and education for vulnerable children. It shares responsibility with families for their children’s human development.
The Sociedade Espírita Fraternidade stands as a beacon. It offers spiritual guidance social support and educational opportunities. It embodies community spirit. It reflects dedication of its founders and volunteers. It is a place of faith action and unwavering commitment.
