“Dare to Serve” is the motto we embrace at Queenstown Secondary School. This co-educational government school stands proudly in Queenstown Singapore. Queenstown Secondary School started as Queenstown Secondary Technical School in 1956. It addressed a “desperate need” for skilled workers. Singapore was diversifying its economy then.
Initially, Queenstown Secondary School classes took place at Jalan Eunos School. In 1957, the school relocated to Strathmore Road. Improvements followed in 1963. A pre-university class was added in 1965. It lasted until 1994. A new four-storey building opened in 1968. Queenstown Secondary School welcomed female students in 1971. Basketball courts were added. In 1985, the school gained a computer laboratory and a language laboratory. Home Economics was also introduced.
In January 1993, the school became Queenstown Secondary School. From 1993 to 1997, it occupied temporary premises. The Strathmore Road buildings were renovated. The school launched a masterplan for learning spaces. Queenstown Secondary School is preparing students for the future. Its applied learning program focuses on Environmental Sustainability. The school partners with organizations like the Swedish Chamber of Commerce Singapore. It enhances sustainability education. The school’s learning for life programme centers on Community Youth Leadership. It collaborates with partners like NUS to serve the community.
The school crest features sky blue and maroon. Sky blue represents limitless opportunities. Maroon signifies the spirit of fraternity. An open book symbolizes learning and knowledge. The wheel represents technical education. The tower shows strength. The lion signifies courage. “Berani Berkhidmat” is below the shield. It means “Dare To Serve” in Malay.
The School Alumni Association was founded in 1966. The Quests band originated from the school. Two band members attended Queenstown Secondary Technical School.
Many notable alumni have walked these halls. Lee Yock Suan is a former Cabinet minister. Bahrin Abdullah is a Bruneian politician and businessperson. Desmond Tan is a Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Queenstown Secondary School was selected to pilot aspects of Full Subject-Based Banding from 2020. The school helps students fulfill their potential. This includes reorganizing form classes of varying academic abilities. The school has a strong culture of care in partnership with parents. Queenstown Secondary School continues to evolve preparing students to dare to serve.
