How about diving into a place where community spirit meets architectural simplicity? That’s St. Philippus for you. Tucked away in Munich, St. Philippus is more than just a church. It’s a hub of activity and faith.

St. Philippus’ story began in 1969 with the establishment of the Katholische Kirchenstiftung. But the church we see today wasn’t completed until 1982. That year marked the inauguration of the entire Pfarrzentrum. This includes the church, a parish hall, the Pfarramt, a kindergarten, a day nursery and even a social center. Imagine the buzz of daily life contained within these walls.

The church bells of St. Philippus deserve a special mention. These aren’t just any bells. They chime in the Westminster motif. This is a sequence of notes: des-ges-as-b. The bells ring to mark services like baptisms and weddings. Also, they ring daily for the Angelus prayer at 8 AM, 12 PM and 7 PM. A special peal rings every Friday at 3 PM. On Saturdays, they announce Sundays and holidays. However, don’t expect quarter-hour chimes. St. Philippus keeps it simple.

Ever wondered who keeps St. Philippus running smoothly? The Katholische Pfarrgemeinde employs several people. Marion Dafner-Freese is the Gemeindereferentin. Sieglinde Böhm works as Pfarrsekretärin. Miroslav Cancar takes care of the church as Mesner and Hausmeister. The church has dedicated musicians. Beatrice Weinberger and Elisabeth Ruckgaber provide the music.

Getting here is quite easy. You can hop on Tram 18. Get off at Säulingstraße or Fachnerstraße. Alternatively, take the U4 or U5 subway lines to Westendstraße. St. Philippus is accessible to all.

St. Philippus isn’t just a building. It’s a community. The Pfarrgemeinde offers programs for all age groups. There are special groups for children, youths, families, women, men and seniors. It’s a place to connect.

Visiting St. Philippus is simple. The Pfarrbüro is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 AM to 12 PM. Just call ahead to make an appointment.

So, as we stand here, let’s appreciate St. Philippus. It’s a place of worship, a community center, and a testament to faith. The bells, the architecture, and the people create a welcoming space. It shows the vibrant spirit of Munich.
