“Did you know that Cemara 6 Galeri doubles as a museum?” Here at Cemara 6 Galeri, art isn’t just observed. It is experienced. Cemara 6 Galeri was founded in 1993 by Prof Dr Toeti Heraty N Roosseno. It has since become a cultural hub in Jakarta.

Toeti Heraty Museum is another name for the Galeri. This reflects its dual role as both a gallery and a museum. This building has been an art space since 1993. Prof. Dr. Toeti Heraty N Roosseno officially inaugurated it.

Cemara 6 Galeri isn’t just about viewing art. It is about engaging with it. The gallery has a main exhibition hall. It also boasts a backyard. This backyard hosts art and cultural activities. Discussions, video art presentations and performances are often held here. Poetry readings and other cultural events also take place. A unique cafe adds to the gallery’s charm.

Cemara 6 Galeri focuses on emerging artists. It provides them a platform for solo and group exhibitions. This emphasis on cultural exchange extends internationally. The gallery actively participates in international art exhibitions. They have been held in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Japan.

In 1996, Cemara 6 Galeri coordinated a Cultural Exchange Program. This included a workshop and exhibition. It was a collaboration between Indonesian and Dutch artists. In the same year, Cemara 6 Galeri also coordinated the Indonesian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

In 1998, Cemara 6 Galeri organized an art exhibition of 16 Indonesian women artists. It was held at Pontifical University of Gregoriana in Rome. In 1999, the gallery co-coordinated an art exhibition parallel to a symposium about Human Rights.

Cemara 6 Galeri also houses a private collection. It features works by famous Indonesian artists. These pieces were collected by Prof. Dr. Toeti Heraty over the years. The collection includes works by Basoeki Abdullah and Affandi. There is also a special room. It contains around 50 paintings by Salim. He is an Indonesian painter who spent most of his life in Paris.

One notable work from the gallery’s collection is “Raden Ayu Oentari Roosseno”. Basoeki Abdullah painted it in 1938. It was showcased in Japan. Another gallery collection is “Boat”. It is a painting by Indonesian Maestro Mochtar Apin.

Cemara 6 Galeri-Museum is located on Jl. HOS. Cokroaminoto No. 9-11 in Menteng. It is open Tuesday through Sunday. It opens from 10:00 to 17:00. The admission fee is Rp10.000.
