Rumors swirled around Stony Point High School like autumn leaves caught in a Texas wind. A story passed from student to student about a suspicious figure, maybe armed, lurking on campus. This was December 10, 2022. Fear rippled through the hallways, quickly escalating into a full lockdown. Stony Point High School transformed from a place of learning into a scene of anxious waiting. Law enforcement descended upon the school, their presence both reassuring and unsettling. They conducted a thorough search, every corner examined, every shadow scrutinized. Finally, the student in question was found. The tension slowly dissipated as the all-clear was given. It was a false alarm. This incident, though ultimately harmless, underscored the vigilance and concern for safety that permeates school life today. Stony Point High School, part of the Round Rock Independent School District, opened its doors in 1999. It’s named after the historical Stony Point School District, which served the same area before consolidating with Round Rock ISD in 1925. Stony Point High School boasts a diverse student body of over 2,500 students. Hispanics comprise the largest group, followed by Whites, African Americans, and Asians. Stony Point also has a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students and English Language Learners compared to other schools in the district. The school offers a range of programs, including the IB Diploma Programme, designed to prepare students for higher education and a globalized world. Stony Point’s teachers average nearly 12 years of individual teaching experience, with some having dedicated over 30 years to the school. While the lockdown incident in 2022 was a tense moment, it also demonstrated the school community’s commitment to student safety. The quick response of both students and staff, reporting the suspicious activity and following safety protocols, helped ensure a peaceful resolution.
