“What if I told you that a species almost vanished from the face of the earth, right here in Antalya Düzlerçamı Yaban Hayatı Geliştirme Sahası?”
Antalya Düzlerçamı Yaban Hayatı Geliştirme Sahası is a haven. It is a place dedicated to protecting wildlife. It is located in Antalya. This area plays a vital role in conservation.
Let’s step back in time to the 1960s. The alageyik or fallow deer population plummeted. Only seven of these creatures remained. They were on the brink of extinction. But local authorities stepped in and started a project.
In 1966 the Düzlerçamı region was declared a wildlife protection area. This was a crucial step. A special breeding area was created. This area is called Eşen Adası Yaban Hayvanları Üretme Yeri. It spans 521 hectares. Here the alageyik could live without human interference.
The population began to recover. The number of deer rose to 66. In recent years the numbers have increased even more. This year the population reached 203. The Eşen Adası Yaban Hayvanları Üretme Yeri chief, Ertürk Reçber, noted that there were only seven deer left in the 1960s. He said that the species was in danger of disappearing.
The seven deer were moved to the breeding area in Düzlerçamı. The population first increased to 66. Then it rose even higher with new offspring in recent years.
There are 82 females, 80 males and 41 fawns. Reçber said that the fawn count has increased. It is a pleasing thing. He stated that the fawn number reached 41 this year. They have been relocating deer since 2010.
They released 79 fallow deer to different regions. They did this so the species would not be endangered due to fire or illness. These deer now live in Köyceğiz Yaban Hayatı Geliştirme Sahası. They also live in Aydın Dilek Adası Milli Parkı and Antalya Manavgat Beydiğin.
The Düzlerçamı Yaban Hayatı Geliştirme Sahası covers 29000 hectares. There are also fallow deer there. Eşen Adası is a closed area. They provide food support such as alfalfa and water. They have 75 acres of pasture. Fifty acres are closed. Twenty-five acres are open.
They try to meet the green grass need with barley, wheat, vetch, and new food items. This also helps production. For the last two years they have also planted summer grass and milkweed. The alageyik also feed on these grasses. They think that the rise in fawn numbers is largely due to this diet.
Now the alageyik thrives. Its population is increasing. The Antalya Düzlerçamı Yaban Hayatı Geliştirme Sahası stands as a testament. It shows the power of conservation efforts.
The Düzlerçamı Wildlife Development Area is not just a reserve. It is a symbol. It symbolizes hope and the ability to protect endangered species. This area is a unique treasure. It highlights the importance of preserving our natural heritage for future generations.
