The Anoka County Veteran’s Memorial stands proudly. It moved from its old home near Forest Hill Cemetery. Now it rests in Riverfront Memorial Park. Completed in 2018 this new location offers a more fitting tribute.
Its centerpiece is a bronze statue. It depicts WWII Medal of Honor recipient Rick Sorenson. Sorenson’s bravery is immortalized in this powerful likeness. The memorial also features flags. Six branches of the military are represented. Medallions pay tribute to Anoka’s Police and Fire Departments.
The Walk of Honor is a poignant addition. It honors those who served our country. This thoughtful design ensures there will always be room for more names. Roughly 750 names can be inscribed. These names represent veterans active and non-active military members. They also include retired Anoka Police and Anoka-Champlin Fire Department members.
Each granite paver tells a story. A parent a grandparent a friend. Each paver purchased represents a life dedicated to service. Even community members can purchase pavers. They show support for all who served. These pavers cost $200. People can purchase online or by mail.
