Tucked away in Lyon’s 8th arrondissement, Lycée Général et Technologique La Martinière Monplaisir isn’t just another school. It’s a testament to the enduring legacy of Claude Martin, a Lyon native who amassed a fortune in India. Lycée Général et Technologique La Martinière Monplaisir stands as one of his three educational monuments in Lyon, established in 1967. Originally built on former industrial grounds, the school breathes new life into the Monplaisir district. Lycée Général et Technologique La Martinière Monplaisir became independent from the other Martinière schools in Lyon in 1978, yet the bond between them remains strong. The school offers a robust scientific and technological curriculum, preparing students for various baccalaureate tracks, including S (with options in Sciences de l’Ingénieur or Sciences de la Vie et de la Terre) and STI2D. Aspiring engineers can pursue preparatory classes in MPSI, MP2I, PCSI, PTSI, and even BCPST1 for biology-focused careers. Lycée Général et Technologique La Martinière Monplaisir also houses five STS programs, granting two-year access to BTS diplomas in fields like construction, public works, and environmental energies. The school boasts impressive facilities, including a renovated boarding facility accommodating around 450 students, from secondary to higher education levels. A modern sports complex, featuring a synthetic turf football field, a city stadium, and a fully-equipped gymnasium, caters to athletic pursuits. A bustling cafeteria ensures students are well-nourished throughout the day. Lycée Général et Technologique La Martinière Monplaisir is more than just academics. It fosters a vibrant student community with a student-led Maison des Lycéens (MDL). The MDL manages over 20 clubs and organizes the annual student film festival, Festival Luciole. The school’s academic prowess is evident in its rankings. In 2018, Le Figaro ranked Lycée Général et Technologique La Martinière Monplaisir 12th out of 90 in its academy, and 360th nationally. Furthermore, students regularly shine in the Concours Général, with nine national laureates since 2002. The school’s CPGE program also achieves impressive results, consistently placing high in national rankings for admissions to prestigious engineering schools. Lycée Général et Technologique La Martinière Monplaisir isn’t just a school. It’s a launchpad for future innovators, a vibrant hub of student life, and a living tribute to the vision of its founder, Claude Martin.
