Can you believe that this remarkable building, the Porte Molitor, was the first residential building worldwide to have entirely glazed facades? Look at these glass bricks. Standing right here, you’re in the heart of Paris, but it feels almost futuristic, doesn’t it? The building straddles two Parisian communes, Boulogne-Billancourt and the 16th arrondissement. Le Corbusier, the famous architect, designed it and lived there himself from 1934 until he died in 1965. He was a true pioneer of modern architecture. Imagine what it would have been like to live here. On the 7th and 8th floors, he created a spacious apartment-studio where he spent many hours painting and working. He considered his apartment a response to “the free plan principle” of modern architecture. Even the apartment’s design is filled with interesting details. Take his studio – it was meticulously designed to mimic the light of the Mediterranean. Just imagine yourself sitting at Le Corbusier’s desk, creating your own masterpieces, surrounded by light flooding in through those giant glass windows. And then there’s the roof terrace. It overlooks the Parisian city and it’s a perfect place to relax and enjoy the view after a long day. Even the rooftop plan, with its arches and terraces, is unique in its design. The apartment-studio is a reminder of the innovative architectural approaches of Le Corbusier, and the Porte Molitor is just one example of his revolutionary ideas.
