Ever wonder about a place in Budapest that whispers tales of kings and vineyards? That place is Sasad. Sasad is a part of Budapest’s 11th district. It holds secrets from centuries past.

Let’s journey back to the 13th century. A village stood here. Its exact location is now lost to time. Part of it later became royal property. Another portion belonged to the Berki family of the Nána-Beszer clan.

The Turkish occupation brought change. The area became known as Burgersberg. In 1847 a “dűlőkeresztelő” gave Sasad its current name. This translates roughly to “slope christening.” It was during a time when areas were being renamed.

Imagine vast vineyards stretching across the landscape. The 1880s brought devastation. Phylloxera destroyed the grapevines. This tiny bug wiped out entire vineyards. The land was then divided again.

Slowly, Sasad transformed. Orchards and weekend plots appeared. Summer homes dotted the hills. Later, family houses rose. Elegant villas emerged. Smaller apartment buildings blended into the green landscape. Finally, residential parks completed the transformation.

Look towards the southern slopes of Sas-hegy. See the Dayka Gábor Street housing estate. These apartments sprung up between 1976 and 1980.

Today, Sasad is a vibrant part of Budapest. It blends historical echoes with modern life. It is a place where the past informs the present. Take a moment to appreciate Sasad. Remember its journey from a medieval village to a modern residential area. Its story is etched in every street and building.
