Here we are at Orpington Baptist Church. A welcoming community awaits just beyond these doors. Let me tell you its story.
Orpington Baptist Church has roots going back to 1882. At that time, an early Baptist church was erected. It stood at the northern end of High Street. Mr Stapleton bought the land for it.
Fast forward to 1967. Orpington Baptist Church began to expand. They erected two large halls. These halls stood at the junction of Station and Tower roads.
Ten years later, in 1977, Stage 2 was completed. The main church opened. This marked a significant milestone.
Orpington Baptist Church seeks to be a loving community. It aims to worship God. The church serves others. Teaching from the Bible is a high priority. They follow the example of Jesus.
The church’s vision is impactful. They want to renew Orpington and beyond. They share the transforming message of Jesus Christ. This is done through words and actions.
Everyone is welcome here at Orpington Baptist Church. There is no dress code. Come as you are.
The church offers various programmes. These are for young people of all ages. There is a crèche for children aged 0 to 3 years. First Steps is for 3 to 5 year olds. Livewires caters to 5 to 11 year olds. Academy is for school years 7 to 13.
Children stay with their parents at the start of the service. This includes welcome songs and notices. The church values worshipping God together as a family. After the all age worship, children go to their groups.
Children’s group activities vary by age. These often include Bible stories. Testimonies and praying are included. Music, craft, drama, and fun games are part of it. There is always a friendly welcome.
Youth also stay in the service initially. Later, they go to the lower hall. They gather in the youth room. They start with an icebreaker game. Refreshments and snacks are provided. They break into age groups for Bible study. Discussions and prayer follow.
Small groups offer deeper connections. These gatherings allow people to know each other. They share and support each other. Groups meet throughout the week.
Orpington Baptist Church also offers other ministries. These include men’s and women’s ministries. There are youth groups. The church supports a night shelter. They also run a foodbank.
