The whispers of faith echo through the ages. Here before you stands Masjid Asy Syuhada a testament to devotion and resilience. Built in 1961 on land generously donated by the late H Gateng bin Saumin this mosque began as a humble structure covering 432 square meters.

Masjid Asy Syuhada is more than just a place of worship. It’s a living chronicle of a community’s unwavering spirit. Its initial size was dwarfed by the ambition of its founders. Through time and tireless effort Masjid Asy Syuhada expanded. In 1997 additional land was purchased from neighboring residents. This significantly increased the mosque’s footprint to approximately 1125 square meters.

The story of growth continues. A second phase of construction started in 2008. This added even more space bringing the total land area to 1217 square meters. The physical construction of this phase commenced on January 17 2009. By November 2010 the ambitious project was completed. The newly expanded Masjid Asy Syuhada boasted a floor space of roughly 1500 square meters spread across three floors. The first floor serves as an impressive multi-purpose hall. The second floor is dedicated to the main prayer hall. The third floor accommodates Friday prayers and the educational activities of the Ruhul Syuhada Madrasah Diniyah.

This expansion wasn’t just about bricks and mortar. It was about growth and community. The expansion was built upon the foundation of a legally recognized building permit. The permit a testament to the mosque’s standing within the community was issued on July 1 1997. The building permit was issued by the Governor of Jakarta.

In 2001 the land and buildings of Masjid Asy Syuhada were officially declared as a waqf or religious endowment. This important act of faith secured the mosque’s future and entrusted its care to the Yayasan Syuhada foundation. The mosque’s management received a certificate for the waqf under number 2/ Jati under the name of Masjid Asy Syuhada. With the physical structure and management established a formal constitution and bylaws were created providing guidance for the future. This ensured the mosque’s ongoing prosperity and spiritual influence for generations to come.

Today as you stand here before Masjid Asy Syuhada you witness more than just a building. You witness a powerful symbol of faith community and enduring legacy. It is a place where prayers have been offered and hearts have found solace for over half a century. It is a place of peace a place of strength a testament to the faith of those who built it and those who continue to nurture its spirit.
