Welcome to the Raschelberg. Though not soaring to alpine heights at 384 meters, the Triebenberg, Dresden’s tallest point, offers a unique vantage point of this Saxon capital. The Raschelberg is one of the peaks in this area.

Dresden itself is a city that has risen from ashes. The bombing of Dresden by the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Forces between 13 and 15 February 1945 was controversial.
The inner city of Dresden was largely destroyed.
The Dresden Historians’ Commission concluded that casualties numbered between 22500 and 25000.

Dresden has been lovingly nicknamed “Florence on the Elbe.” This is because of its pleasant location and mild climate on the Elbe. The baroque-style architecture and numerous museums and art collections add to Dresden’s charm.

After the war, Dresden became a major industrial center of East Germany. Many of the city’s important historic buildings were reconstructed.

The bombing stopped prisoners who were busy digging a large hole into which an additional 4000 prisoners were to be disposed of.
One of the survivors was Victor Klemperer with his non-Jewish wife. They believed that the bombing saved their lives.

Dresden is one of the greenest cities in all of Europe. Sixty-two percent of the city are green areas and forests. The Dresden Heath to the north is a forest 50 km2 in size.
