Founded on April 1, 1952, Universitas Krisnadwipayana or UNKRIS, stands as a testament to Indonesia’s dedication to higher education. This private university in Jakarta began with a vision to empower the nation. It has grown into a respected institution.
Universitas Krisnadwipayana started from humble roots. Mr. D. Usman Iman established a consulate of Balai Perguruan Krisnadwipayana in Bandung in February 1952. This consulate initially offered written law courses. It also opened several secondary and vocational schools. This was in Kebayoran, Serang, and Tangerang.
The university’s early days saw it operating from rented spaces. Lectures took place at Jl. Abon No. 3 in Bandung. Universitas Krisnadwipayana also used Gedung Hygiene at Universitas Indonesia. Despite these challenges, the institution thrived. It attracted students from across the archipelago.
In 1954, the Yayasan Universitas Krisnadwipayana foundation was established. This foundation aimed to stabilize the university’s operations. It managed the university’s finances and administration.
Over the years, Universitas Krisnadwipayana expanded its academic offerings. In 1956, the Faculty of Public Administration was established. Later in 1963, the Faculty of Engineering was added. This was in response to societal needs and legal requirements.
Today, Universitas Krisnadwipayana boasts four faculties. These include Engineering, Administrative Sciences, Law, and Economics. Each faculty offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The university also provides regular and extension classes.
The campus spans approximately 16 hectares in Jatiwaringin, Pondok Gede, East Jakarta. Universitas Krisnadwipayana provides modern facilities. These include air-conditioned classrooms and Wi-Fi access. There are also departmental laboratories. Sports facilities like basketball, soccer, and futsal fields are available. A mosque and a Pendopo add to the campus environment.
Universitas Krisnadwipayana is committed to academic excellence. Its programs are accredited by the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education. The university also collaborates with universities both nationally and internationally.
Several notable figures have graduated from Universitas Krisnadwipayana. These include Zulkifli Hasan, the current Minister of Trade. Abdul Latief, a prominent businessman, is also an alumnus. Azis Syamsuddin, Hassanudin, Saleh Husin, Mulfachri Harahap, and Eliaser Yentji Sunur also attended UNKRIS.
Universitas Krisnadwipayana continues to evolve. The Master Plan for Accelerated Development aims to make UNKRIS a leading university by 2025. It will offer quality study programs and educational innovations.
The university has embraced blended learning. In collaboration with Pintar, UNKRIS offers Management and Informatics programs. This is to provide students with flexible and accessible education.
