Richmond was once a manufacturing powerhouse. Factories like Bryant & May match factory, Jaques Limited engineering works, the Wertheim Piano factory, and Pelaco shaped the suburb’s identity. The remnants of this industrial past can still be seen in the converted warehouses and factories that now house trendy apartments and businesses. The iconic Nylex Clock, perched atop a former silo, stands as a reminder of Richmond’s industrial heritage, immortalized in Paul Kelly’s song “Leaps and Bounds.” Richmond is also a sports lover’s paradise.
