Envision a church born from red brick. Skovshoved Kirke stands before us a testament to faith and architectural vision.

Skovshoved Kirke is more than just a building. It is a landmark in Skovshoved. It reflects the area’s rich history. The church was built between 1914 and 1915. Alfred Brandt designed it in a Neo-Romanesque style.

Notice the granite base. The red brick rises from it. The main entrance features a round-arched portal. Above it is a tympanum. This is under a circular window. Evangelist symbols surround the window.

Originally the tower had a cube-shaped spire. This changed in 1935. It was replaced with the pyramid spire we see today.

Step inside Skovshoved Kirke. The ship is covered by a barrel vault. The apse has a semi-dome vault. Queen Louise gifted the altar and kneeler. The altarpiece has a three-part gilded frame. Axel Helsted painted it. It was a preliminary study. It served as the altarpiece for Kristkirken.

Originally the apse had seven windows. Johannes Kragh created the stained glass. In 1965 Knud Lollesgaard replaced them. He used glass mosaics. In 1968 Lollesgaard added a glass mosaic. It sits in the circular window facing east.

Outside near the entrance is a memorial plaque. It honors Aage Helge Olstrup. It also honors others who fell during Denmark’s fight for freedom.

Johannes H. Christensen was a beloved priest here. He served at Skovshoved Kirke for many years. Skovshoved Kirke is a place of beauty and reflection. It is also a tribute to those who shaped its history.
