Imagine a humble prayer room transformed into a beacon of faith. That’s the story of Masjid Nurul Jannah. It stands as a testament to community spirit and divine grace.
In 2007, the residents of Sektor Azalea faced a challenge. They lacked a proper place for worship. During Ramadan 1427 H, they built a temporary mushola on an empty plot. This makeshift structure was meant to enhance their spiritual practices during the holy month. Nature had other plans. Heavy rains destroyed the temporary shelter. Undeterred, the community rallied. With support from donors, they rebuilt the mushola. This time, they used tents along the complex road.
Driven by a shared vision, residents formed a construction committee in January 2007. They created a mosque construction proposal and circulated it among potential donors. A significant milestone was reached on June 22, 2007. The first stone of Masjid Nurul Jannah was laid. Yayasan Bulan Sabit Merah, the primary donor, led the ceremony. The local sub-district head of Sukmajaya and the village head of Jatimulya were also present.
On September 1, 2007, the Dewan Kemakmuran Masjid Nurul Jannah was established. Bapak H Misbahul Munir became its chairman. The mosque was officially handed over. Yayasan Bulan Sabit Merah transferred ownership to the DKM on December 7, 2007.
Even during construction, Masjid Nurul Jannah became a hub of activity. In August 2007, the community gathered for Nisfu Sya’ban prayers. They also performed Salat Tasbih in front of Bapak Parso Prasetyo’s house. September saw the first Tarawih prayers in Masjid Nurul Jannah. The community celebrated Nuzulul Quran. They invited external speakers. Ramadhan Kids events were held. A young preacher named Salsa was invited. In December 2007, DKM Nurul Jannah organized the Qurban sacrifice. They sacrificed two cows and six goats.
Yayasan Bulan Sabit Merah continued its support. On June 14, 2009, Masjid Nurul Jannah received additional aid. This included 30 Al-Quran copies, 18 Lekar, and a whiteboard. This donation was part of BSME’s development program. It aimed to provide essential facilities. The donation was presented by Bapak Nurhadi from BSME. Jul Tjahja, head of RW 06 and advisory board member of DKM Nurul Jannah, accepted the donation.
In 2019, plans emerged to renovate Masjid Nurul Jannah. A construction committee was formed and fundraising began. The Depok City Government offered to take over the renovation. In 2022, the city government carried out the reconstruction through the PUPR Office. After building a perimeter fence, renovations commenced in August 2022. Prayers were temporarily moved to a temporary building near the Azalea badminton court.
In December 2022, worship activities returned to the new building. The reconstruction of Masjid Nurul Jannah cost Rp 5.6 billion. The first Maghrib prayer was held on December 18, 2022. The last Asr prayer in the temporary building was also on that day. On Wednesday, January 4, 2023, the Mayor of Depok, KH Dr Mohammad Idris, officially inaugurated the rebuilt Masjid Nurul Jannah.
