After the war, from 1946 to 1949, it was the location of 暨南 University. Finally, in 1950, the Shanghai International Studies University was established here.

The university has undergone several name changes. It began as the Shanghai Russian Language School. Then it became the Shanghai Foreign Language College. Finally, it was renamed Shanghai International Studies University in 1994. The university celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2019.

In 1956, a significant event occurred. Lu Xun’s remains were moved to Hongkou Park. The park was later renamed Lu Xun Park in 1988. That same year, the administrative divisions of Shanghai were adjusted. The Shanghai International Studies University was officially incorporated into the Hongkou District. This marked the beginning of the university’s close ties with the district.

Aerial photographs from 1979 show the campus layout. The most significant change was the straightening of the Sha Jing Port waterway. Some river areas were filled for campus construction. The sports field was reoriented from east-west to north-south. Today’s Building 3 and its southern flower garden remain. All other older buildings have been renovated.
