Right here in Westpark stands a testament to nature. It is a building designed for people. It is the Hoch-Wiesen-Haus Installation.
This model is not just concrete, wood, and glass. It is a vision of architecture. Friedensreich Hundertwasser created it. He wanted it to be fitting for humans and nature.
In 1983, the Directors of the IGA in Munich invited Hundertwasser. The Vienna Culture Alderman, Dr. Helmut Zilk, helped. Hundertwasser proposed a poster. He also shared his architectural ideas. He later wrote the manifesto “Concrete Utopias for the Green City”.
On July 26, 1983, Hundertwasser realized the tree-tenants installation. It was at Ganghoferstraße 86 in Munich. The Hoch-Wiesen-Haus Installation was constructed for the IGA. This International Garden Show took place from April 28 to October 9, 1983. Hundertwasser himself attended the construction. The model’s scale is 1:20.
The Hoch-Wiesen-Haus features concrete. It also uses wood and glass. Vegetation is essential to its design. It became a permanent exhibit in Westpark.
In 2008, the Hoch-Wiesen-Haus was restored. This restoration celebrated Westpark’s 25th anniversary. The Hoch-Wiesen-Haus Installation remains a symbol of Hundertwasser’s vision. It demonstrates harmony between people and nature. It continues to inspire visitors here in Munich’s Westpark.
