The year is 1905. Imagine a grand estate nestled in the heart of Knoops Park in Bremen. The air is abuzz with activity as skilled craftsmen put the finishing touches on a distinctive U-shaped building. This was no ordinary structure. This, my friends, was the Hofmeierhaus Haus Lesmona. The Hofmeierhaus Haus Lesmona served as a vital part of the grand Lesmona Estate, its name a charming nod to the Latin name for the Lesum River. Unlike its more elaborate neighbor, Haus Lesmona, the Hofmeierhaus had a more understated elegance. Designed by Friedrich Wellermann and Paul Fröhlich, it was built in the Historicist style, a tribute to bygone eras. The Hofmeierhaus was a study in contrasts. Its plastered walls and hipped roof with decorative timber framing spoke of rustic charm. Yet, the large carriage house and adjoining living quarters hinted at a more practical purpose. Over the years, the Hofmeierhaus has seen quite a bit of history unfold. It once housed the ever-vigilant St. Magnus fire brigade until 2011, their presence marked by a quaint, low-slung fire station with a unique tent-like roof. Today, the Hofmeierhaus has taken on a new life. What was once a space for carriages and firetrucks now echoes with the laughter of families in spacious apartments.
