The doors of the church are open. Welcome to The Church of St. Margaret Mary in Golden Valley, Minnesota. This beautiful Roman Catholic church is a landmark for the area, established in 1946. A place of faith, hope, and community, it played a crucial role in the lives of those who came to worship here. The church’s establishment was a testament to the rapidly growing post-World War II development in the area, with returning soldiers and their families settling in the nearby Glenwood Terrace and McNair Manor housing developments. The first mass was held in the basement of the administration building at Glenwood Hills Hospital. Before the church’s current building was dedicated in 1959, there was a basement church that had previously been dedicated in 1948. Interestingly, this basement church was originally a standalone building in what is now the school cafeteria. The school building itself was built in 1953 for grades 1-5 and expanded in 1959. Grades 8 were added and in 1973 they even added kindergarten. The church prospered until 1995 when its school had to be closed. Today, a charter school called LoveWorks Academy occupies the space. The Church of St. Margaret Mary continues to be a welcoming space for the local community and a center of religious life in the Golden Valley area.
