A storm ravaged the Mühle von Rönn in 1886. This iconic landmark of Osterholz-Scharmbeck lost its four mill wings. The Mühle von Rönn stands tall a testament to resilience.

The Mühle von Rönn isn’t just a pretty picture. It’s a living museum. Built in 1882 it boasts a fascinating history. Miller W Peters from Hanstedt built it on one of Scharmbeck’s highest points. It quickly changed hands. Wilhelm von Rönn bought it in 1888 giving it its current name.

His brother Albertus took over in 1895. Albertus was a prominent figure. He served as a local official even becoming a member of the Hanover state parliament. The Mühle von Rönn thrived under his leadership.

The Mühle von Rönn adapted with the times. In 1937 gas and later electric motors supplemented the wind power. Modern wings improved its efficiency. Sadly a 1939 storm destroyed the mill cross.

Milling became entirely electric. A new wing cross with sail gate wings followed in 1958. It wasn’t used for milling though. The Mühle von Rönn continued its transformation.

Private initiatives led to its renovation in the 1990s. It became a mill museum. The Biologische Station Osterholz moved into the main building. Meteomedia AG uses the site for a weather station. Since 2006 the Stiftung Maribondo da Floresta runs the mill cafe.

The Mühle von Rönn is more than a mill. It’s a community hub. It houses a museum a weather station and a cafe. It’s a true symbol of Osterholz-Scharmbeck’s enduring spirit. It stands as a reminder of the town’s history its innovation and its connection to the land. The Mühle von Rönn stands proud. Its story continues to unfold.
