The city continued to evolve. Minnetonka Plaza was built in 1955. Later it was renamed Tonka Village Shopping Center. New developments appeared in the late 1980s and mid-1990s. Tonka Bay has faced challenges too. In 2003 and 2004 the liquor store was demolished. This made way for road reconstruction. The city added boat slips in 2011.
