Thomas’s Academy became an academy in 2015. It was formerly New King’s Primary. The school wanted more control. Thomas’s London Day Schools stepped in to help.
Thomas’s London Day Schools started in 1977. They improved schools and focused on education. Ben and Tobyn Thomas saw potential. They wanted to include a state partnership. This would raise educational ambitions. Thomas’s Academy then focused on four cornerstones. These cornerstones create a vibrant community.
The four cornerstones are ‘Be Kind’, ‘Learn to Learn’, ‘Grow Together’ and ‘Create Beauty’. ‘Be Kind’ emphasizes social development. ‘Learn to Learn’ focuses on learning attitudes. These include being reflective and inquisitive. ‘Grow Together’ promotes global-mindedness. ‘Create Beauty’ expects excellent work from all pupils.
Thomas’s London Day Schools helped balance the budget. They attracted funds to transform the building. Specialist staff were funded for music and art. They also supported outdoor learning and sports. The academy could then spend more on each pupil.
Thomas’s Academy is now a school of choice. It delivers on the hopes of its community. Thomas’s London Day Schools still support it. They believe that better never ends. The academy now stands on its own.
Suzanne Kelly is the Principal of Thomas’s Academy. She describes it as inclusive, innovative and inspirational. The school caters to pupils aged 3 to 11. It has a mixed gender intake. The school has capacity for 240 pupils. Currently 206 pupils attend.
