His song “Marjolaine” became another hit. Its melody came from a German folk song. Stanley Kubrick’s film “Paths of Glory” popularized it.

Lemarque also composed music for films. He worked on Jacques Tati’s “Playtime”. Pascal Sevran often invited him to perform on his shows.

In 1989, Lemarque performed at the Olympia for the first time. His final performance was in 2001. He passed away in 2002. Francis Lemarque is buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery. He rests near Yves Montand.
