Fukuoka Prefectural Hakata Seisho High School is located in Fukuoka City. More precisely it is in Hakata Ward. You will find it in the Chiyo 1-chome district. It is a credit-based high school. This means it offers both full-time and correspondence courses.

The school was established in April 1997. It consolidated several existing prefectural high schools. These schools offered full-time and correspondence courses. Fukuoka Prefectural Shuyukan High School was one of them. Also Fukuoka High School and Tsukushioka High School contributed.

Seisho High School is the first credit-based high school in the prefecture. The full-time program offers over 200 courses. Students can create a curriculum. The curriculum is tailored to their individual goals.

Seisho High School was designated as a testing site early on. It hosted the High School Equivalency Examination. NHK Gakuen High School also designated it as a support school. This was for its schooling program in Fukuoka Prefecture. The school conducts face-to-face lessons and practical skills training. It also holds regular exams plus entrance and graduation ceremonies.

The school has few regulations. There is no official school uniform. Students wear suits they have purchased themselves. They wear them for graduation and entrance ceremonies. They also wear them at open school events. This tradition is upheld by student volunteers and student council members.

The full-time program uses a two-semester system. Entrance and graduation ceremonies occur twice a year. These ceremonies are in spring and autumn. Classes are held on weekdays. These weekdays are from Monday to Friday. Students belong to one of three departments. They are the morning afternoon or evening department. Students must take at least 50% of their classes. The classes must be within their department’s designated time slot. Department transfers are not allowed.

The correspondence course focuses on self-study. Schooling takes place on Saturdays and Sundays. There are also study sessions in different regions. The school offers a general studies course.

Several notable alumni have graduated from Fukuoka Prefectural Hakata Seisho High School. These include actress Haruka Suenaga. Also former Takarazuka Revue Company member Erina Sakurano. Stage actress Mayuka Kimura is an alumna. Playwright Tetsuro Taoka also attended. He heads the theater company “Hife Urensenkei Venus”. Tsuyuki Ueki is another graduate. He is a boat race ambassador and former boat racer.

To get to Fukuoka Prefectural Hakata Seisho High School you can use public transport. The school is a 12-minute walk from Yoshizuka Station. This station is on the JR Kashii Line. It is an 8-minute walk from Chiyo Kenchoguchi Station. This station is on the Fukuoka City Subway Hakozaki Line. Several Nishitetsu bus stops are also nearby.
