Once upon a time in Midland Texas, there was a church. That church was named Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. It stood as a beacon of faith in the community. Today we will delve into its past.
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church has been an enduring presence in Midland since 1929. It is rooted in the Anglican tradition. The church embraces a loving and inclusive God. The Church of the Holy Trinity in Midland has a rich history. Its roots trace back to 1884. At that time the first Episcopal services were held in the area. However it wasn’t until 1929 that regular services commenced. The mission faced challenges and changes in locations. In 1939 a brick building was completed. It was consecrated in 1942. The church achieved parish status in 1943. It underwent expansions. A new wing was added in 1947. A parochial day school was established in 1958. This later became the renowned Trinity School of Midland.
In 1957, the mission church St. Nicholas was organized in northwest Midland. It was under Holy Trinity’s sponsorship. Holy Trinity continued to grow. It acquired additional property and completed expansions in 1968 and 1975. This included a memorial bell tower.
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church has seen several rectors associate rectors curates and deacons. Each contributed to its spiritual and structural development. Holy Trinity remains a cornerstone of the community. It reflects a legacy of faith and service since its early beginnings.
The first recorded service in Midland took place in 1884. Records show an unorganized mission of 14 in 1914. The mission was organized in June 1929. A frame library building was purchased in 1930. The church school was organized in 1934. The downtown lot was sold in 1935. The church moved to its present location. The frame Church was sold moved and a brick Church built in 1939.
In 1942 the first pipe organ was installed. The church building was consecrated. The mission became a Parish in 1944. The first Rector was called. Classrooms were added in 1946. The Parish Hall was added in 1947. The Children’s Chapel and classrooms were added on the west side in 1952. The sponsored a mission church to be called St. Nicholas in 1957. The name changed from Trinity Chapel to Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity in 1958. A small day school started in 1958. Property in NW Midland was given for Trinity School in 1961. Trinity School was built in 1962.
The Parish Hall was remodeled in 1968. A new east wing was added with a Children’s Chapel. The west parking lot was acquired in 1970. The Church was enlarged and transepts added in 1974. The Bell Tower was erected in 1976. The 50th Anniversary was celebrated in 1979. The Organ was moved the Sanctuary enlarged and the altar made free standing in 1982. A Playground was installed and blessed in 1986. Saint Frances Hall was built as a New education building in 1992. The Administrative Wing was Built and Renovations were made to the Choir area in 2001. The 75th Anniversary was celebrated in 2004. The renovated playground was dedicated in 2019.
