A chilling wind whipped around the Eski Açık Tribün, carrying the echoes of roaring fans. This wasn’t just any stand. It was a monument to Galatasaray’s unwavering spirit. The Eski Açık Tribün at Ali Sami Yen Stadium held a special place in the hearts of Galatasaray fans. It was more than just a place to watch football. It was a cauldron of passion, a symbol of unwavering support.

The Eski Açık Tribün witnessed history unfold. It saw legendary players grace the field, celebrated victories, and mourned defeats. But time took its toll. By 2005, the old stand, battered by the elements and the fervor of its occupants, was showing its age. Structural concerns arose, and a difficult decision had to be made. The old Eski Açık, a beloved landmark, had to come down.

Galatasaray fans were understandably heartbroken. But from the rubble emerged a new Eski Açık Tribün. This wasn’t just a renovation. It was a rebirth. Led by the 1905 GSYİAD (Galatasaray Managers and Businessmen Association), a project began to give the stand a new lease of life. The first phase, completed in September 2009, saw the upper section of the Eski Açık Tribün covered, providing shelter from the often harsh Istanbul weather. The second phase followed shortly after, extending the cover to the away fans’ section. This new Eski Açık, a testament to the dedication of Galatasaray’s supporters, stood proudly ready to welcome fans for the Galatasaray-Trabzonspor match. It was a symbol of renewal, a sign that even in the face of change, the spirit of the Eski Açık, and the passion it represented, would live on. This place, the Eski Açık Tribün, was more than just concrete and steel. It was the heart and soul of Galatasaray.
