Is this giant a gentle protector? The Achimer Mühle standing right here in Achim certainly looks majestic. This windmill, dating back to the 18th century, is a prominent landmark in the city. It stands as a testament to Achim’s rich history. The Achimer Mühle wasn’t always a solitary structure. Imagine a time when a Bockwindmühl stood proudly nearby. This earlier windmill, built in 1651, marked a victory against the Swedish authorities who ruled the Duchy of Bremen. However, this predecessor to the Achimer Mühle eventually made way for the grander Galerieholländer windmill we see today. Constructed in 1761, the Achimer Mühle with its two-story thatched tower, towers 29 meters high. Its four impressive wings stretch an impressive eleven meters each, capturing the power of the wind. Although no longer a working mill, the Achimer Mühle remains a symbol of Achim’s past. It’s a reminder of the ingenuity and resilience.
