A joyful start awaits children at Little Broomwood. It is a preschool with a difference. Let’s step inside this unique place.
Little Broomwood is designed for 3 and 4-year-olds. It is located in the peaceful Vicarage. This site is part of Broomwood Pre-Prep. Specialist designers helped create a state-of-the-art learning space. This space provides a multi-sensory environment for the children.
Outdoor learning is essential here. The dedicated Early Years site offers free flow access. Children can easily move between indoor and outdoor classrooms. A typical day might include a bear hunt in the garden. Magic potions might be concocted in the mud kitchen. Children enjoy climbing in the adventure playground.
Little Broomwood is the first step in the Broomwood family of schools. These schools cater to children aged 3-13. It is located between Clapham and Wandsworth Commons green spaces. The school offers a dynamic education. Children start in the co-ed pre-prep. At age seven they move to single-sex, collaborative prep schools.
Children learn through play here. The curriculum is exciting and inventive. They might read in the secret library. They might solve maths puzzles in the classroom. Dragon eggs might be searched for in the garden. The emphasis is always on having fun.
The preschool year gives children an excellent grounding. They benefit from being part of the Broomwood school group. Specialist staff visit from other sites. They deliver lessons in music, French, art, and PE. Families are very involved. They are regularly invited to come and learn sessions, events, and talks.
Little Broomwood pioneers a new PE program for under 5s. Specialist sports teachers deliver exercises. These exercises help young children develop core strength. They improve balance and coordination. Caron Mackay, the Pre-Prep Head, says it benefits children in all their lessons.
The program develops gross and fine motor skills. These skills are crucial for coordination, balance, and muscle tone. This gives children physical confidence. It helps them across the board. It helps them from sitting at a table to holding a pencil. A typical activity might involve bouncing a balloon. They bounce it first in the right hand. Then they bounce it in the left. This works both sides of the brain. Crawling in a plank position is another activity. They crawl from one side of the room to the other.
The school believes the program is transforming concentration levels. As Little Broomwood children move into higher years, this will benefit them. It will benefit them both in the classroom. It will benefit them when they are introduced to more formal sports.
Little Broomwood children move seamlessly into Reception. Most will then stay at Broomwood until either 11 or 13+. They are prepared for entrance to both day and boarding schools. They win a huge number of scholarships every year. These scholarships cover academics, drama, music, art, and sport.
Little Broomwood aims to nurture young minds. They prepare children for an outstanding education. They do this in a friendly, home-like environment. The school provides a rigorous academic foundation. But this is never at the expense of a fulfilled and happy childhood. Lessons such as Music, Sport, and Art are taught by specialist teachers.
By the time a child has completed their time here, they will have been taught many things. They will have learned the academic, social, and emotional principles. These things will ensure that they thrive during the next part of their education. The school wants its pupils to leave feeling confident. They also want them to be excited for Pre-Prep.
The school aims to educate the whole child. This includes ensuring they learn to appreciate and enjoy good, healthy food. At breaktimes they drink milk and/or water. They are offered a variety of fruit, vegetables, and biscuits. Children staying for the whole day will have a nutritious hot lunch. This lunch is cooked on site. Little Broomwood truly provides a happy, safe, and enriching environment for your child.
